so, my question is.. if you win in Las Vegas, are you taxed? forgive me for asking, but I am a Canadian who is now living in San Diego, and I am unsure.
Thanks!

Try the search function. Canadians ask this every couple weeks. You%26#39;re an optomistic nation.
question on taxes
If you%26#39;re a US resident and pay US taxes, your nationality isn%26#39;t of any significance here - you%26#39;re subject to the same tax regulations as any other US taxpayer. This includes paying tax on gambling winnings.
LOL thanks, we are sorta in Limbo. I guess I will keep any moneies one, and claim them for IRS to see what happens.. thanks!

or your tax professional
This is NOT the place to get tax advise, so much offered is wrong
This is important and about your $, it%26#39;s easy to call them and ask.
I have an accountant who is an expert on taxation related to gambling. If anyone needs a referral send me a pm.
Thats a loaded question...canadian living in the US. Depends if youre paying canadian or us taxes. I just know for a canadian depending on the size of win and the terms of payout, a canadian coming back to canada can have as much as 36% withheld...
If you are paying paying Canadian taxes you would be issued a 1042-S showing your win and taxes deducted. You can then file a Nonresident Alien Tax Return to reclaim taxes withheld. You can easily do this yourself or have an accountant do it for you.
I have won several jackpots which is a win of $1200.00 or more (largest was $5000.00) on slots only, and have always had 30% deducted. I have filed my own tax return for years and have never had a problem.
what about someone from the uk?
