I have been going to Vegas for many years. It%26#39;s usually the same every time. Gambling (slots) %26amp; eating out.
This time I decided we would do different things talked about on the forum. Researched a lot %26amp; printed a lot of coupons.
Report to follow.
TR June 2-5 Best Trip Ever
Day 1
We left Mon. morning at 5:30am. We were driving. No traffic all the way. We met our friend, Don, at Hash House A Go Go about 10:30am. This was the only disappointment of the trip. Mediocre at best. Don%26#39;s huge pancake was burnt on the bottom. He%26#39;s shy %26amp; didn%26#39;t say anything. My BF (I%26#39;ll refer to him as PH) and I ordered the sage chicken with a touch of maple. No sage or maple flavor at all. But the service was great. I used our restaurant.com certificate for $10.
We the went %26amp; checked into The Orleans (3 comped nights). Requested a room by the elevators with a view %26amp; got it. I have always had rooms by the elevators there %26amp; never had a noise problem.
Unpacked then down to the slots. I play penny machines anywhere between 20-60 cents. Started with $20 %26amp; in a couple hours had $71.
We then went %26amp; got ready for our dinner at Casa Di Amore. The complimentary limo picked us up at 5pm. Our driver was Smitty %26amp; he was a sweetheart.
I requested Brad as our server when I made the reservation due to the nice things said about him on the forum. Well we sat down %26amp; he came %26amp; said ';do I know you?'; I told him no but I had read wonderful things about him on TA. He said he usually comes in at 6pm but since there was a request for him he came early. What a doll! I really liked when he told us about the specials of the night %26amp; followed each one with the price. I almost cried when he said the special appetizer was polenta with buffalo mozarella, garlic, mushrooms %26amp; tomatoes. I%26#39;m Italian %26amp; hadn%26#39;t had a great polenta since my grandma passed away 20 years ago. It was just like hers. I had the salad %26amp; PH had the soup. The salad was lovely but when I tasted the soup it brought back wonderful memories of my grandma. Just like hers. PH had angel hair pasta witha madeira chicken. I had the balsamic sauced pork chops. Both were divine. We then shared a chocolate truffle dessert %26amp; coffee. Oh, I forgot Sun. %26amp; Mon. all wine bottles are 1/2 price so we has a bottle of Spumanti. Used ny restaurant.com certificate %26amp; the bill was $53.00 + tip.
Smitty the took us back to hotel (I tipped him $10 each way) %26amp; we gambled a bit then went to bed.
Day 2
Went down to casino %26amp; gamble a couple hours. Put in $20 %26amp; cashed out at $52.
Then we went to Wynn. 1st time there. Absolutely beautiful. We signed up for Red Card, spun the wheel %26amp; got $10 play. We went to the video roulette to see if we could get our free buffets. Wow! It worked. We then discovered the Wizard of Oz machines. I AM ADDICTED! They were so much fun. Again started out with $20 %26amp; cashed out $45. What really impressed me was they serve Mojitos at the penny machines. They were delicious, lots of fresh mint. PH had to make some phone calls so I browsed around the casino %26amp; put $5.00 in a penny Mermaid machine %26amp; bet 20 cents a hit. at 80 cents left I hit the bonus round. Hit for $175!! Yeah!! If only I had bet 40 or 60 cents.
We then went to the buffet. I thought it was delicious. High quality items. But I do agree with some posters the desserts were just ok. However the mini key lime pie, banana cream cake %26amp; carrot cake were great. And yippee again. Free!!!
We then walked over to the Pallazo. I was underwhelmed. I just didnt see the beauty I saw at the Wynn. I also found the personnel just ok. No one was rude, just indifferent. I didn%26#39;t care for their slots either. We then walked over to the canal shops at the Venetian %26amp; had slices of pizza. Walked back to the Wynn %26amp; then drove back to Orleans.
Gambled a few hours then hit the sack.
Day 3
Went to the Red Rock casino to play bingo. Didn%26#39;t care for the bingo as most people are using the machines that fill in the numbers for you. We could barely keep up. May have had a bingo but we wouldnt know.
We did like the ambiance at the Red Rock %26amp; would go back. We had burgers at Fatburger %26amp; they were great.
I forgot before we went, we went to Tix 4 Tonight right by Neiman Marcus at the Fashion Show Mall. The valet let me park for free while I went %26amp; got our tickes. I had a VIP line pass %26amp; was I ever glad. About 50 people in line but I was able to walk right up. Got tix for Carrot Top that night for $39 each. The girl did suggest we go to the Luxor as soon as we can as we turn in the voucher for the tickets %26amp; seating. The earlier your there the better. We didn%26#39;t go %26amp; I%26#39;ll tell you what happened later.
After Red Rock we went back to Orleans. We had planned to eat at Circus Circus steakhouse as quite a few people had recommended. We decided to take a nap instead %26amp; go to the Prime Rib Loft at the Orleans as Luxor %26amp; Circus Circus are so far from each other.
We had a wonderful dinner. Filet mignon %26amp; shrimp scampi, soup or salad, potato %26amp; dessert. We just had soft drinks %26amp; the bill was $58 + tip. It was a lovely meal.
We then headed over to the Luxor for Carrot Top. Went to the ticket booth about 730. We should have listened to the girl at Tix as we got seats in the last row. Thats ok for $39. We waited in line %26amp; when we got up to the maitre %26#39;d he said we have to climb stairs to get to the upper last row. I truly can not do stairs. I asked if they had an elevator. He said no problem %26amp; sat us 4th row center. Let%26#39;s hear another yippee!!
We absolutely loved him. I wasn%26#39;t aware that in addition to his props he does a lot of stand up too. Loved the ending when the lights go down %26amp; you hear hard rock music (our favorite) %26amp; when the lights come on he%26#39;s impersonating the singer in a hysterical way. I would definitely would pay full price to see him again.
Went back to Orleans %26amp; gambled about an hour %26amp; went to the coffee shop for their graveyard specials. Pancake/Ham sandwick %26amp; steak %26amp; eggs, $2.99 %26amp; $3.99. Delicious.
Day 4
Got up %26amp; checked out at 1030. We met Don for breakfast at the Maple Tree Country Kitchen, 6000 Spring Mountain. We go there on every trip. I had a 20% off coupon. As usual it was wonderful. And the nicest people own it.
We then went to Fashion Show Mall. PH %26amp; I split up when we got there %26amp; would meet 2 hrs later. I bought a blouse, lip gloss %26amp; Ethel M cashew brittle.
PH had been talking about a place called Bonnie Springs Old Nevada. It%26#39;s off the 15 about 15 miles on Blue Diamond. we didn%26#39;t know what to expect. We got there %26amp; they charge $20 a carload. Think of a very small Knott%26#39;s Berry Farm from many years ago. It%26#39;s really great if you have kids as they have a large petting zoo with animals walking around %26amp; a lot of unusual animals. They have a wild west show with just 2 guys. I loved it, the sherriff was so snarky. They have an intermission for about 15 minutes then you go outside for the hanging. This is audience participation (PH was the judge). I really liked they had the old video games to pay, Galaga, Centipedes, Dig Dug etc. They have the carboard like figures where you stand behind %26amp; put your head in %26amp; take pictures, horseback riding etc. It is corny but I think after Sin City it was nice change.
We then headed home about 630pm %26amp; I slept. PH woke me up at the border %26amp; we stopped at Whisky Pete%26#39;s. We said we%26#39;ll play $20 each %26amp; then have their steak spcial. Well, the $20 lasted about 3 hrs. PH was down to the last dollar %26amp; hit for $25.35.
We then ate (The steaks were terrific) for $5.99.
Got home at 400am.
I really loved this trip as we did so many different things.
Grand total for trip for everything (not counting PH%26#39;s gambling as he is private about it, but I didn%26#39;t see him sulking as usual when he%26#39;s losing) so I think he did ok. $825.
TR June 2-5 Best Trip Ever
Great TR. I will be staying at The Orleans next week for a couple of days for my 7th time. I used to get comped nights but now they only give me discounted rates. The Prime Rib Loft is good as is Canal Street.
The old west thing sounds very interesting.
Thank you for your excellent TR...I enjoy it a lot because like you I love to try lots of good foods and gamble(slots):-)
So the trick for Wynn buffets worked for you..please tell me how much you bet on black, red and 0 and where is the location of the vedio roulett. Thanks a lot.
Fun report to read. I like the idea of trying new things, after reading reports on here. I am doing that too.
Since I already have my Wynn red card, I wonder if that Roulette Trick would get me enough points for another pair of buffet tickets?
Thanks for your great TR! I am so glad you talked about the Maple Tree Country Kitchen as we ate there our very last day on our last trip to Vegas which was about a year and half ago and I could not remember what it was called. We are going back to Vegas for a week the first of Aug. and I was trying to rack my brain what it was called. All I could remember was it was ';Maple'; something. Could you tell me where you got the 20% off coupon? Thanks!
To answer your questions.
I can%26#39;t quite remember where the roulette slot was but I think it was a little to the left of the Cartier store. It%26#39;s very tall %26amp; not very wide. I bet $18 red, $18 black $1 0. I did hit the 0 once. I had 70 points on my card from Wizard of Oz. Think I played 6-8 games %26amp; I cashed out $37 so $3 of my money was lost.
I used to receive comp nights a lot but hadn%26#39;t received anything for about 9 months. This special also entitled me to play in Video poker slot tourney. As you can see with all I did I didn%26#39;t have time to play in tournament.
Maple Tree %26amp; other coupons. I posted about this about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I%26#39;ll break it down step by step.
1. Go to superpages.com
2. Type in The Maple Tree Las Vegas Nv.
3. There will be multiple choices. Select Show business names containing Maple Tree
4. You will then get their listing. Underneath the listing will be 2 for 1 coupons. Hit on it
5. That will direct you to the Entertainment Book where you can sign up for a free 2 week trial membership
6. They do not ask any personal info. Just your email address %26amp; they assign you a password.
7. You then can print coupons for 2 weeks in all the areas they cover.
8. Don%26#39;t sign up til just before you go as the coupons are only good for 2 weeks.
9. The Maple Tree has 2 coupons, the 20% off entire bill or 2 for 1 meal. I printed the 20% 1st so I was unable to print the 2 for 1.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
OURLADY- Thanks so much for the info. on the coupons!!! I will be sure and do that before we leave!!! The is such a great forum as get so much good advice from everyone!!!
