MT Charleston Lodge?

Going to Vegas in October for 8 nights. I recently have heard about this place and thought it might be a nice day trip to rent a car, drive thru valley of fire and perhaps dinner at the Charleston. Would love any input from anyone who has been there or has heard any info..

Cheers all

MT Charleston Lodge?

I too am interested in this Mt. Charleston idea. Has no one ever heard of it?

MT Charleston Lodge?

Our group will be doing all of this next week while in Vegas. Mt. Charleston Lodge for lunch, Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire. I plan on writing my first trip report when I return.

Mt. Charleston is a nice little mountain area about an hour out of town. There are actually 2 different ';lodges'; up there. We call them the ';old lodge'; and the ';newer lodge';, although the newer lodge isn%26#39;t all that new anymore. The old lodge has more charm, it has a huge fireplace in the middle of the room where you can sit and drink Mt. Charleston coffees. The newer lodge is basically just a hotel with a dining area and a bar area.

Mt. Charelston is in the opposite direction from the Valley of Fire tho.

I guess I should add that if you%26#39;re driving up the mountain you%26#39;ll come to the newer lodge first, before you really even get into the pine trees. If you keep going on Kyle Canyon road to the end, that%26#39;s where the old lodge is. It%26#39;s nestled in among the pine trees, which the newer lodge isn%26#39;t.

The old one further up definitely has more charm, plus it has a band that plays kitschy music that is fun. It is higher elevation and a greater view.

Foodwise is fine bar food for lunch. The newer lodge that you first pass by has more of a hotel restaurant food, not as much scenery.

We make a point to visit Mt. Charleston every years, and stop at both lodges. The second one, further up is definately a great place for a nice Lunch. Have outside seating and the view is spectacular, you can actually forget you are half hour away from Las Vegas. If you enjoy adult beverages :), be sure to try the special of the house, the Mt. Charleston coffee, careful though, it can pack a punch at high altitudes!
