Pretty boring drive. Road and Desert. Takes about 3 hours depending on stops and traffic.

3 hours is way too short. Normal traffic at 75-80 mph will be 4-41/2.
I agree with the 4 1/2 hour timeframe. I made the drive years ago in a nice rental and it was long, not attractive, high desert trip. Also, if you are doing it in the dead of summer, throw a jug of water in the truck. Between the speed, outside heat and the max A/C, keep an eye on the temp gauge. It%26#39;s HOT in the desert and you climb a lot of ';hills';!!
