Help with table etiquette from Vets...

So I am going to Vegas in two weeks. I only started playing Blackjack this year but think it is my favorite of the table games...Craps is a close second but I don%26#39;t really understand the betting so..

I don%26#39;t want to make a fool of my self (or my more experienced friends)so is there anything I should know about when sitting at the tables?

Is there any drink I shouldn%26#39;t order or something with touching my cards that could make me look stupid... Basically I just don%26#39;t want to look like an idiot, any advise would be helpful.

TIA!

You can only touch the cards if it is a pitch game (cards dealt face down). If it is a table with a shoe and the cards are dealt face up, NEVER touch the cards.

Order whatever drink you like, just try not to spill it on the table and/or the cards. You%26#39;d be surprised how often this happens.

Most importantly, don%26#39;t play horrible 6:5 blackjack. Try to find good 3:2 games, which are few and far between these days. Dealers will usually give you pointers too. Just relax, have fun and keep in mind that everyone was a rookie at one point.

I don%26#39;t by any means consider myself an expert but find it refreshing that you are asking for advice....good for you. It;s always a good idea to be educated about a game before you play.

As for eiquette, these are just things I appreciate and/or have learned

Don%26#39;t cuss.

Don%26#39;t smoke at a crowded table (I am a smoker).

Don%26#39;t touch the cards unless single deck, then keep your cards on the table and only use one hand. Use the ';standard'; hand signals for hitting/ standing.

Order whatever you want to drink!!!

Go to hitorstand.net and practice so you won%26#39;t look like an idiot and double down on 14(which DH did one time as a joke and won, we were alone on the table :)

DONT PLAY 6:5 !!!!!!!!

Dre, nice of you to enquire. Don%26#39;t sit at third base (last seat before dealer), don%26#39;t put a margarita down on the felt if it has salt on the rim,do tip the cocktail waitress and never play 6/5. Craps has more items to note but I will leave that to more experienced crap players. Great game though.

This is going to sound like a stupid question to many probably. I%26#39;m heading to vegas for the firs time in septemeber and have seen a lot of people talking about don%26#39;t play 6:5 but do play 3:2. what%26#39;s the difference? jsut the odds of winning?

Underpar: Why would you tell someone not to sit at third base??? I always sit at third base when it%26#39;s available.

My biggest pet peeve is that when you approach a table ask the current players if they mind if you join or would like you to wait until the shoe is over. Nine times out of ten the players will not mind you joining in mid-shoe, but if they are on a streak they may ask you to hold off for a couple of hands. For the record, I always welcome new players to the table.

mb, thanks for asking. 6/5 is the payout you get on a blackjack. Instead of the 3/2 that is what has always been. $10 bet gets $12 instead of $15. While appearing innocuous, it%26#39;s actually insidious (good words huh?). Kinda like buying a dozen eggs and getting 10. Tables, almost all single deck especially, usually have a small sign saying pays 6/5. Act rightfully insulted and go elsewhere.

Craps etiquette:

- don%26#39;t touch other people%26#39;s chips

- avoid handling dice with both hands

- if you don%26#39;t know, ask the the ';boys';

- if you%26#39;re shooting the dice, keep the hand with the dice in sight

- if the dice goes off the table, hand them to the dealers or boxman

- put your drink below the table on the shelf

- don%26#39;t comment/criticize other people%26#39;s bets

- make sure to hit the far wall when shooting dice

- when others are shooting, keep hands high above the railings to avoid interfering

- tip

- be nice, have fun!

The reason to avoid sitting at third base (all the way on the left end of the table) is so that you don%26#39;t play right before the dealer and your play won%26#39;t be blamed if the dealer doesn%26#39;t bust.

A good etiquette rule for BJ is when you sit down at a table, ask the other players if they would like you to wait for the shuffle before joining the game. Many players won%26#39;t care, but if the shoe is hot and you come in in the middle and somebody%26#39;s luck changes, they might get grumpy.

If someone at your table gets dealt blackjack, congratulate them. They will probably do the same for you.

You may find that players and dealers tend to be more relaxed during the daytime (and table minimums are usually lower also.)

Bottom line: Blackjack is one of the best games for the player because of the odds of winning, simplicity of play and social interaction. Don%26#39;t be intimidated - all of us were inexperienced once upon a time. Have fun!

I think you leave the third bas open for the person who plays consistant and makes the tough hits, (has a 15 or 16 when the dealer shows 7,8,9,10 and so on.)
