MGM Trip Report June 6th to June 9th

Friday 6th

Our Southwest flight went well after we just about missed our plan because we were having drinks at the bar. We rushed to the gate after sucking down our drinks and ended up being next to last to board. Lucky for us we still got to sit together in the very last row of the plain.

This set the tone for the weekend…… lots of drinks and what ever happens, happens.

Our flight landed in Las Vegas on time at about 530 pm on Friday. This can be a very busy time, but we did not have checked bags and made it to the cab line quickly. It is amazing how fast it moved with all the people. We asked the driver to stop at the liquor store on the way to the hotel. He was happy to help. Total cost of the ride was $13 with $5 tip.

We hit the front desk and asked to check in. I requested something in the Grand Tower with a view if possible. The clerk offered a room below the 8th flour facing east (no view) or we could have one of the “remodeled” nicer west wing rooms (made it sound nice). Well I was so stinking happy to be in Vegas I lost my head, forgot all of my research about the best room choice. GGGRRRRRR, We took the West Wing.

Complaint section:

-West Wing-

Reviews that talk about these rooms as being dark and small are TRUE. A lot of effort has been given to making the room stylish and cool, and they are sort of cool. But that is just masking the fact that these rooms should be $65 a night rooms for people who don’t want much space or a view. And yes the decor is dark and depressing.

We asked to be close the elevator, so he put us in room 3-205. We could not have been farther from the elevator without leaving the building. Unless all you care about is being close to the walking part of the strip, or the poker room, the west wing is a pain in the butt of a location. Even if you want to catch a cab you end up walking aaaallll the way back to the other end of the hotel.

This was the only bad part of our stay for me.

Note…. Tracy did not mind as much as I did. Lol

After chack in we got a massage and did not even bother to eat. Started with Gin and tonic in the room and took off looking for trouble. We took the monorail to Harras, stopped in at the piano bar and Carnival court. Mostly we walked around and watched people and had a good time. We got a drink at the outside of the piano show (the strongest and best gin and tonic ever). We then took off looking for something yummy to eat.

About this time we realized that all of the nicer restaurants in the casinos close at 11pm. By this time we are quite drunk and having a great time, but very hungry. We find the café at Caesars. Well it was not real fancy but the food was very good. Of course, drunk and hungry can make food taste good. Best fish and chips I have ever had.

We caught a cab back to MGM and crashed for the night.

Saturday 7th

I could not sleep past about 530 am. To excited about Vegas. She slept great. So I went to walk around. Went out to the strip and watched the hookers end there shifts. It is very interesting to watch these girls stumble around after a long night. One was still working a guy over right on the sidewalk.

Then there was the party animals doing the walk of shame back to there hotels. Talk about people watching…. Wow.

Picked up some essentials from Walgreens and then went back to MGM and started getting the lay of the land and planning the best route to the pool, food, drinks and all that.

I picked up Mc d’s and coffee and took them to the room so we could have some fast food therapy for our hangovers.

We hit the Pool at about 10:30. Still plenty of seats and the crowd were great. Everyone was having fun at the lazy river.

We had planned on Going to Wet Republic so we sat close the entrance. When the music started the line formed quickly. We are not much for pushing or clamoring to get into places, so we waited about 45 minutes before we went over to see about the “ultra pool”.

-Wet Republic-

We like to dance and drink. We spent two days at Wet Republic. IT WAS GREAT!

It is a full throttle club. Loud DJ music, and lots of people drinking and having fun. We loved people watching and dancing in the sun. We found everyone to be looking to say hi and talk. Very little attitude and just a flat out good time.

The lame part is the waiting in line to get in. The cover is $40 for men and $20 for women. Everyone pays on Friday and Saturday. The ';gate keeper'; will make you stand in line forever if you are a man. Ladies get in quick.

Saturday it became clear I would not be getting in without dropping some cash. The deal is that you can wait around for ever, and pay $40/$20 for cover, or rent a chair for $150 and get right in. Then they have a $150 minimum Food and beverage charge. We had no trouble at all eating and drinking that much. We had a great stake and lobster sandwich and a nice Asian chicken salad for lunch and LOTS of drinks. Total for the day was $153 on food and drinks plus a tip for our very cute server. We would have spent that anyway. It was good for us.

More to come.

sounds like fun, oh to be 20 years younger and 50 pounds lighter and you would find me at Wet drinking then dancing like a fool. (could never do both).

Sounds great! So, the trick is to buy $150.00 food and drink tab at the gate? and that includes admission? and a chair?

Forgive my ignorance, but is the wet republic a complex of pools and bars? Is there gambling in there? When you say rent a chair, do you mean a deck chair? Sorry for all the questions, but are going to the mgm next month, so very interested!

Nice TR so far.

You can hear the excitement to be in Vegas in your words. Sounds like a good time so far. And thanks for all the good details about the Wet Republic. This info will help lots of peeps!

It is a total of $300. $150 for two lounge chairs (nice and soft with a side table). Then $150 for food and drinks.

All you are realy paying for is fast access to Wet Republic.

No gambleing in Wet Republic. Two Pools, one has a volley ball net. and lots of space for people on the deck. Huge bar, very little shade until about 3 or 330 pm. The Signature towers start to give shade after that.

You can see us on napkinnight.com. Some Photog took our pic on Sunday.
