Does anyone know if if there is an airport near the Grand Canyon? I am trying to avoid the 5 hour drive.
grand canyon
There sure is, if you Google ';Las Vegas tours'; you%26#39;ll find a number of companies that run all sorts of GC tours.
grand canyon
I%26#39;m confused. The tours into the Grand Canyon take 5 hours. I am trying to avoid the long drive, I just wanted to know if there was anyway around it.
we used the grandcanyontourcompany.com, just click on ';airplane tour';
Make sure that the tour you are booking goes to the Grand Canyon Nat%26#39;l Park at the South Rim near Tusayan. That is what takes 5 hours to drive. There are no commercial flights to Grand Canyon Airport there, but there are a few flight tours via fixed wing aircraft. Best thing to do is drive it and spend the night. It%26#39;s worth the time, and you%26#39;ll save money.
There are also many tours to the so called %26#39;Grand Canyon West Rim';. This is not the GCNP. Avoid those tours even though they might sound attractive because they take less time. They do not take you to the real Grand Canyon
Redrox, you sent me in a panic to check my booking ( for Next week :D :D :D), but I%26#39;m glad to say it%26#39;s for the South Rim.
Thanx guys!!!
We didn%26#39;t want the long drive and had budget constraints so did the West Rim instead of the South (Lots of people recommend South over the West on this forum - so please take this advice as such).
The trip was booked via lvgct.com and was actually with papillion/scenic tours - they collected us and the drove to Boulder City, where we flew to the west rim. We had a really enjoyable day viewing the canyon and walking around (at the top). The tour started at 8am and I think we were back on the strip by 3ish - so a short day/tour. One of our group did the Helicopter/boat tour down into the Canyon and raved even more about it the next day.
If I had a couple of days spare, then I%26#39;d love to go back to the South Rim and spend a couple of nights etc there for more - however was really pleased with what we saw (very impressive) in the short time and $ we had.
Georgina, I am glad you enjoyed your trip, but you did not see the REAL Grand Canyon.
Cheers Bobear - As said in my note I realise that the South Rim is considerably more impressive and I wanted to give the advice re timing/planes with that caveat - however what we saw was excellent and yes we did enjoy it a lot - if we had a couple of days to spare, I%26#39;d def do the South again next time however.
