Does anyone know what became of the Wizard of Oz display that used to be in the MGM%26#39;s casino? Someone told me it was somehere else in the MGM now but I%26#39;ve never seen it....I miss the atmosphere it gave the place although I%26#39;m sure it was removed because there was no profit in it...
MGM's Wizard of Oz Poppy Field circa 1994-1998 or so....We were there in 1993 when we made our first trip to Vegas. I was actually wearing my ';I don%26#39;t think we are in Kansas anymore'; t-shirt the day we went to MGM. There were some tourists there taking my picture since I also had long brown hair and wore it in pigtails that day (think they thought I was Dorothy) LOL
Anyway I don%26#39;t remember seeing it anywhere else in MGM after they took it all down...that was the same time they took the lion from the entrance (you entered through the mouth of the lion) I think someone posted here once that it was a cultural issue but can%26#39;t remember the details.
MGM's Wizard of Oz Poppy Field circa 1994-1998 or so....Thanks TD! I remember in the movie, Vegas Vacation, the Griswalds enter the MGM through the lion%26#39;s mouth. It was gone soon after that...I think that was 1997...
I am pretty sure they still have the lion habitat though...send a PM to Low (he%26#39;s the MGM expert) LOL
I remember that entrance. It was considered unlucky to enter through a lion%26#39;s mouth in some Asian countries (Chinese?). At least that was the rumor.
I also remember the lobby with Dorothy, Tin Man and Lion-Emerald City. They had a brief magic show for free or a very small price. And then there was the storm. I remember bails of hay scattered about. And of course- there was the ';amusement park'; in the back.
I have never seen any part of that that display still at the MGM. They do have Lion Habitat but that is not related to the Emerald City display.
Sic transit gloria mundi.
Ducky - Please tell me you have a photo of your Dorothy braids? :)
I would buy her a whole weeks worth of slushies to see that pic.
I%26#39;m getting sleepy...
Ducky, you must come up with a ';braids'; photo. That%26#39;s classic. Too bad about Toto. What with the lions and all.
Oh dear....I will have to see if we have one. That was our first trip and went with some friends, so we%26#39;ll have to see if we can find it. I was so young then, so none of you would even recognize me!
Careful on that pic Ducky.
If I remember right, you were wearing leather and carrying a whip. Ummm...you know? ..for the lions!
