Trip Report - Flamingo - Go Room
Just got back - DH %26amp; I were there from 06/05 - 06/09 - and are exhausted.
Our flights went well; on the way out we flew US Airway and on the way home flew Frontier but sister %26amp; her boyfriend%26#39;s flight out was CANCELLED with US Airway - no viable reason given but instead of flying out on Friday night the 6th they flew out Saturday morning - no compensation given or offered for the room in Vegas. Felt bad for them - but letting them handle the battle with the Airline.
Our flight was early Thursday, landed in Vegas at 8:30 am - needless to say we were starved - got our rent car - very fast %26amp; easy with Rental Center and went to the Peppermill for breakfast. Food was great - atmosphere was all Vegas and service was good. Satisfied we decided to check and see if our room was ready. It was - NICE! The clerk did her best to find us a clean room as high up as possible - after reading the forum I knew the higher up the better - I guess it didn%26#39;t hurt that we used the $20 trick. It was defintely worth the $20 to have our room at 10:30 am - it was on the 22nd floor and yes a GO Room. Awesome room, good price, great bed - we had a view of the pool area and it was perfect.
Dropped our bags and off to explorer. We first checked out our Casino - it%26#39;s ok - older, crowded - but the crowd was good...especially when the dancers were up platform dancing right in front of the stip doors. Funny to watch them dance on the pole and see grannies in their wheelchairs watching....nothing strange in Vegas. I seemed to always win money here ... we would play slots for a couple of hours prior to going to bed and the penny slots paid better than I ever expected...yes Monopoly was my favorite - it paid me about $600 over the four days and it is very entertaining.
I won%26#39;t give a play by play to all of the Casinos - because we went to all of them and I don%26#39;t have the time but I will highlite the ones I enjoyed.
Ceasars - love that casino - played slots and had some drinks at the Shadow bar and dinner at Mesa Grill - Awesome.
Plant Hollywood - loved it - layed out well - big Casino - never felt to croweded.
Mandalay Bay- DH favorite - I liked it too but his absolute favorite. Large - smelled good - not crowded.
Palms - I had the most fun there! We played Roulette for hours - the crowd was young and fun.
Downtown - spent most of Sunday there going in and out of the Casinos %26amp; bars - the Golden Nugget was nice - downtown definetly has a different feel. My DH liked it.
I noticed that at all of the Casinos the later in the day the younger the crowd - the earlier in the day the older the crowd. Lots of wheelchairs and walkers and slow movers.
Went to Hard Rock at night - I would highly recommend to the Rock %26amp; Rollers - loud music - young crowd. We didn%26#39;t gamble much here - mainly just looked around.
MGM was ok - very big.
We ate at Casa Di Amore - after reading the reviews I was disappointed - the food at Carrabba%26#39;s is much better. The food at Bobby Flay%26#39;s Mesa Grill was AWESOME - service is top notch. We only ate one dinner buffet and that was at Mandalay Bay - the food was very good - great selection and price was fine - about $25 a person.
For breakfast as I indicated at Peppermill was good - then two days we ate at Paris buffet - very good.
The wait was never that bad - and the price is good.
Few things to know when going to Vegas....
It is crowded, lots of smoke, lots of walking, lots of waiting, lots of everything!
My feet still hurt and I%26#39;ve been back two day :)
We had fun and enjoyed all of it - no complaints. Even the inconvenience of some things were things to experience - lots to look at ... people %26amp; things - lots to do.
Can%26#39;t wait to go back - probably in a year and this time we will stay downtown. We always rent a car so it we can come and go to the stip as we please.
I know I didn%26#39;t go into much detail - saw and did lots in four days so I summarized! If you have any questions just let me know.
Trip Report - Flamingo - Go Room
i%26#39;m surprised you didn%26#39;t enjoy Casa, but i%26#39;m glad you enjoyed the rest of your trip, because i enjoyed your TR! you%26#39;re one of the few people to ever give the restaurant a bad recommendation as i%26#39;ve heard nothing but good things from them. Although I must admit I personally find Carraba%26#39;s and Olive Garden to be complete crap so either we just have different tastes (i%26#39;ve never been to Casa Di Amore!), or it really is that bad!
Sounds like fun. Now,,, had you booked a GO room and the $20 was for the high floor, or had you booked a standard room and got upgraded to a GO room?
I love the casino at MB I wish they had a better selections of slots but they have the best drink service. I was turing cocktails down while playing the penny slots. I think the CW%26#39;s were very friendly at MB.
I was at MB over Memerioal day weekend and while NYNY was seriously packed MB was nice and quite.
Very good TR MB is also one of my favorites.
were you upgrade to a ';to go room'; for $20 ?
Are did you pay for a high floor?
Casa wasn%26#39;t bad - it just didn%26#39;t live up to the hype...could be that I had my expections to high! I don%26#39;t like Olive Garden at all! Again, Casa di Amore wasn%26#39;t bad and they do give you lots of food - oh - they do pour a good drink. We had Tanqueray and Tonic and they were good %26amp; strong.
We actually booked the Go Room - the $20 tip at check in was just to get a room as high as possible and to get it early. At first the clerk advised us that no rooms were ready and that we%26#39;d have to check back after 4 pm! As soon as DH got his wallet out and held a twenty out (casually) where she could see it, she made the noises of really looking for a clean room. Not waiting for the room was worth the twenty - I knew that being there so early was taking a chance but the tip worked!
Thanks to all of the hints and suggestions we really enjoyed ourselves - the food we ate was good - sometimes GREAT (Thanks Bobby Flay) - drinks always flowing and nice to come back with a little of the gambling budget in our pockets.
This forum is invaluable when planning a trip to Vegas!
