We went to South Shore last week for a mini-vacation. We flew in to Sacramento as it was cheaper than Reno as was renting a car. Nice drive over, pretty views. We stopped at In %26amp; Out burger for lunch. We don%26#39;t have them in Oregon so that was a treat.
We had some extra points from our timeshare so we were able to rent the penthouse at Kingsbury of Tahoe. It was a very nice room, 3 bedrooms, 2 balconies. One side overlooked the Carson Valley, the other side would have had a nice lake view but a new building had been builts, so we had a partial lake view. Signs up about the bears. I was hoping to see one, but didn%26#39;t. :(
First day we hiked down to Vikingsholm. The whole time down I thought I was gonna die when I had to go back up. lol But, it actually wasn%26#39;t as bad as I expected. Had to stop a few times but I guess I%26#39;m not in as bad of shape as I thought.
We had dinner at Josh%26#39;s, the lobster special for $19.99. It was pretty good. They gave us chocolate covered strawberries for dessert so that was a nice treat. Did a bit of gambling, not much to speak of. Turned in early.
Next day we drove up to Virginia City. That place hasn%26#39;t changed since I was a kid. It was fun looking at everything again. It was also fun playing machines that spit out money and not just a ticket. I actually did pretty good, hit the HUGE $1 machine for the 7%26#39;s. We came away with money!
Our last day we took a drive all the way around the lake. That was really nice. I enjoyed seeing the beautiful houses and looking at the boats moored around. We stopped at Cal Neva for lunch but no restaurant open and I swear I heard crickets in there! Talk about dead. We went across the street to the Biltmore and had lunch. It was standard food. Played a little there and then went across to the Crystal Bay. Played a little there and came out ahead. Drove the rest of the way back, stopping at spots to look at the beautiful lake. It%26#39;s amazing how clear it is. Sad to think that that is changing every year.
Stopped at Bills on our way out of town and lost some money. I know we were there in the ';off'; season but I was surprised at how few people were at the casinos. Had a good time though.
mini trip report
Thanks for your trip report. We had dinner a couple years ago at the CalNeva, before they were going to start on their complete renovation. We wanted a last meal in the old restaurant with beautiful view of the lake. Sounds like they are barely opened now.
Josh%26#39;s is a great dining room for their $19.99 Lobster dinner. I%26#39;m glad others know about it. We never miss it with our family when we are at Stateline.
Sounds like you had a great mini vacation.
