car rentals

We are going to Las Vegas July 16th to the 23rd to ';de-stress'; after daughter moves to Hawaii. Thinking about renting a car for a few days to go to Mt. Charles one day and maybe Valley of fire the next. My question, are we better off renting at a hotel ( staying at the Flamingo) or getting one from the airport? Have never rented a car in Vegas before and not sure which option to choose. Need to know the pros and cons

Thanks...

Deb

If you go to Dollar.com, you can click on ';locations';, select Neveda-Las Vegas-the casino you want and check what total rate you get for your dates.. Then, go to the homepage and use LAS as the pick-up point. You should get an exact picture of how much your cost will be.

Thanks, will check into that now. Let you know the outcome.

We stayed at the Flamingo in May and rented a car at the Hertz

kiosk right in the hotel. You will pay more renting from the hotel

- it is cheaper if you rent a car at the airport - but for the convenience it was well worth it. We had my wife%26#39;s parents with us and we headed to the Valley of Fire for a day. We booked the car the day before and picked up the car the next morning at 8:00 - hassle free! Since we had the car for the day we went for a nice relaxing breakfast then headed up the I15. M

It is cheaper to rent from the airport than from a hotel. And the hotel desks are not open 24 hours- they usually close an hour for lunch and late afternoon. Dollar allows you to return the car to a hotel so if you could do that it would be great. Rent from the airport to drive to your hotel and keep it for two days and then return it to the hotel. Not only can you see Mt.Charleston (blessedly cool- about 30 degress cooler than the strip) and VOF (take plenty of water and wear closed shoes-fantastic scenery) but you can also see some of the off strip casinos, restaurants and attractions.

If you get a chance- eat at Rosemary%26#39;s- you won%26#39;t be disappointed.

VP-

Dollar was cheaper renting at the airport and returning to the hotel, so that will be the plan.

Up and out to breakfast, any suggestions..?.ride to Mt. Charleston and hopefully dinner @ Rosemary%26#39;s.

Thanks, will update you soon with the Hawaiian news.

Hi Deb...we are renting a car also for our stay July 25-31 using Alamo (it was cheaper than Dollar using the Entertainment Book). We decided that it was more convenient to pick up the car at the airport and return it to the airport. Just remember if you return the car to the hotel you will have to pay a cab to get back to the airport! We wanted the freedom as well to visit VOF, Hoover Dam %26amp; possibly GC. Enjoy your trip!

Carolyn,

Thank you, we have an entertainment Book and I had not even thought of using it.

Teach, if at all possible, try to schedule your excursion during the weekend when car rental rates are cheaper.

Hitch,

Do you think VOF and Mt. Charleston will be okay on the weekend? Not too busy? We have absolutely NOTHING planned as of yet....other than gambling and drinking..so I thought I should start to build an internary. Never spend 8 straight days in Vegas before.

Teach, with that much time, for sure I%26#39;d plan a trip to the Grand Canyon. If you do it on the weekend, you can avoid the high weekend rates at the casinos. You can book either inside the Gc or outside. Personally, I get bored after two or three days of gambling and I need to ';get away';. I would urge you to include Red Rock Lake Mead plus what you mentioned. A three day weekend would get it done.
