TR birthday surprise trip June 9-11

Still tired from getting back last night around midnight but what a nice (although very short) trip!

I surprised my DH at his work having arranged with his boss for 2 days off to celebrate his birthday. Tee-hee--DH had no clue about the secret plan. He was totally blown away and smiled ear to ear all the way to Vegas.

We got in around 10pm, picked up a rental car, drove over to the Palazzo, and after valet parking the car (smooth fast process) walked in to the impressive lobby and checked in. They upgraded us to a pool/strip view room which was very large and fancy. We ran down and started playing slots and games until about 1am when we pooped out. Very comfortable night in the well appointed room (anichini sheets!).

In the morning (both days) we enjoyed the little bakery right at the elevators, just popped down and got coffee and delicious pastries which we enjoyed lounging around in our room with the view of the pool and mountains. The first day we wandered around casinos and shopsa at Palazzo, Venetian, and then over to Wynn. We did the ';red card trick'; and got 2 free buffets at Wynn which we thoroughly enjoyed. I got such a kick out of getting the freebies--thanks to TripAdvisor for letting me in on the method!! Then we were off to Spamalot which we giggled all the way through, the humor was right on for Python fans and the singing (esp ';lady of the lake'; was great).

Day two we drove out to Springs Preserve and wandered around the exhibits--we enjoyed the ';flash flood'; room, the movie about building the Hoover dam, and the Martin Sheen narrated movie on water in Vegas. I enjoyed the chicken panini sandwich and salad at the Wolfgang Puck Cafe there. It was too hot to check out the walking trails. Then we went over to Red Rock Casino and did some more gambling. I even played a table game which is very evolved for this penny-slot player. We enjoyed a very yummy dinner at Cabo the Mexican restaurant there (they make guacamole tableside and I had fantastic tamales). Then off to the airport and back home by midnight!

Okay here%26#39;s the only grumbles: the rental car return was really hard to find (we came in from Red Rock). The Palazzo rooms could be cleaned better, spots on the glasses, stains on the carpet and chaise lounge chair (how long has it even been open?!). The lady next to us on the airplane home was the most hostile person we%26#39;ve ever been seated near-she had the aisle seat and swore at DH when he asked to get up to get his book!! Oh, and we didn%26#39;t win millions.

What a nice Birthday surprise you pulled off! Sounds like you folks had a wonderful time. Great trip report.

What a great surprise for your husband%26#39;s birthday! I was really surprised to hear the negative things about the Palazzo since it has only been open a few months. The guacamole sounds sooo good-- even this early in the morning. Sounds like you had a great trip!

Thanks for the report!
